The Forest of Princess Mononoke

On the last day of my visit to Yakushima I attended a trekking tour to the forest of Shiratani-Unsuikyo. Most often associated with the origin of the inspiration for Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke, the forest is a magnificent castle of nature full of tress, rocks, rivers, and moss.

Beach, Fishing, and River Fun at Yakushima

Summer is officially here! As I am excited to start grad school in Europe (more on this in a different post) this coming Fall, I realized there are still so many places even in Japan that I haven’t visited. And Yakushima, an island just south of the Kyushu region, is somewhere I have longed to go since I was a […]

Trip to Numazu Part 1 – Coelacanth Museum

This past weekend I took a trip to Numazu, which is a city placed at the Western side of the Izu Peninsula of the Shizuoka prefecture. Located just two hours by train from Tokyo, Numazu is a convenient place to visit for pleasure and gourmet. And that is exactly what I went for.

The Deep Sea Museum AKA the Coelacanth […]

Sakura 2018

It’s that time of year again where I post a bunch of photos of sakura!
I (well, us Japanese people) never get bored of looking at and taking photos of the sakura. In fact, I myself, go to the same place (Nakameguro) every year just to take similar photos.

This got me thinking – why do I do this? Why do I […]

Book Review – RED – Hitler’s Design

A book with an interesting title RED-Hitler’s Design caught my attention the other day in a local bookstore, and without really thinking I bought it with several other books I’d intended on buying. That night as I flipped through the pages of the book, I immediately got sucked into the content.

The book analyzes Hitler as a Creative […]

Cycling on the Shimanami Kaido

The day after the rabbit island, I went on a full day cycling tour of the Shimanami Kaido. The Shimanami Kaido is a long path that goes across the Setouchi ocean, between Hiroshima and Shikoku. It features beautiful scenery, a bunch of bridges, and an excellent experience. From Onomichi(where I stayed and started) to Imabari (the end) is roughly 70km, […]

Trip to Rabbit Island (Ohkuno-jima)

This past weekend I took a trip to Ohkuno-jima, which is an island that is a part of Hiroshima Prefecture. It is commonly known as the bunny island, since the island is inhabited with a lot of rabbits. A LOT of them. And it is the cutest thing ever.

The only way to […]
