The day after the rabbit island, I went on a full day cycling tour of the Shimanami Kaido. The Shimanami Kaido is a long path that goes across the Setouchi ocean, between Hiroshima and Shikoku. It features beautiful scenery, a bunch of bridges, and an excellent experience. From Onomichi(where I stayed and started) to Imabari (the end) is roughly 70km, and I rode until half way.

I stayed at a hotel called the “Hotel Cycle.” It is a reformed warehouse converted into a nice fashionable location for shopping and dining. Located right next to the ocean, it is a 5 minute walk from the ferry.

This is the inside of the Hotel Cycle, looking into the row of guest rooms. Doesn’t it look a bit like jail?
The Onomichi U2 is right by the ocean and has a beautiful wooden deck.

Around 8AM, I rented a bike at the rental center. There are several locations where you can rent bikes, but this one that I went to was open from 7AM (the earliest among the rental stores). The fee for the bike was 1,000 JPY for the day.
To get to the cycling road, you need to hop on the ferry and get to the another small island called Mukaijima, which is about 5 minutes from Onomichi.
And the cycling begins! The roads were clear, the scenery was beautiful, the air was clean and fresh.
This is Sunset Beach, about the halfway point from Onomichi to Imabari. I rested for a bit and then turned back.
